Sophie Connot, Laura Patterson and Jessica Razanadrakoto met on the Spring 2015 voyage of Semester at Sea. While traveling, they shared stories of what made them who they were and what fueled their passions. For Sophie, it was years of attending and staffing leadership-based summer camps for kids. For Laura, it was playing Division 1 lacrosse and making a commitment to social justice by working with several non-profits around the world. For Jessica, it was living and learning in Madagascar and later moving to the United States for a better education. Ignited with a passion for positive change in the world, Sophie, Laura and Jessica made a plan to combat the issues Malagasy schools faced that Jessica had expressed. Combining their strengths and backgrounds, they created Camp Fihavanana to enhance the Malagasy education system at a grassroots level.
